  1. Great value

This charger/battery package seems a great value...a smart charger for 18650's, with 2- 2600mah batteries AND a car adapter (great for charging while we're camping). Great combo of products at very attractive prices.

Although I have only had this product a short time I feel it will be a much better system than the 123 batteries.
The first thing I noticed was the light was actually a little brighter. So time will tell but I am satisfied at this point

  10. Fenix are-c1 charger - does the basics

Posted by Thomas M. on 10th Aug 2013

I bought the package deal (Fenix are-c1 charger for 18650 batteries), and 2 18650 li-ion rechargeable batteries, for $31.95. So, that was good.
From electrical analysis review I read, this battery charger does the basics well for 18650 batteries, but other chargers are rated higher. Specifically the Xtar WP2 II, Nitecore IntelliCharger i2 Charger, or Nitecore IntelliCharger i4 Charger.
The Fenix are-c1 does detect voltage, charge up to 4.2 v, and then drop the charge current down after that.
You are supposed to unplug it or remove the batteries when charging is complete.
From the technical review I read, one of the larger issues about which charger is better concerns the CV/CC (constant voltage/constant current) charging algorithm.
Over charge protection is important because:
    - we don't want any li-ion battery fires
    - the average user (out there in the marketplace) can easily put the batteries in charger, turn it on, walk away,
and not check on the charger until 24-36 hours later. Some people are diligantly monitoring their charger like
good technicians. Some people has busy lives with mulitples things going on.
