• Fenix in Action: Marque Baldwin

Meet Marque Baldwin, a recently retired police officer for the Broken Arrow Police Department (BAPD), an integral team member of Land Run Brands, and a Fenix-Store sponsored athlete. During his 21 years of service in the police force, Baldwin was awarded the BAPD Officer of the Year in 2012 and a National Valor Award by the North American Police Work Dog Association in 2015. These are just a few of his accomplishments throughout his career. He obtained National Accreditation as a Police Canine Trainer and served several years on the State of Oklahoma's Drug Dog Advisory Board. Though Baldwin retired and closed this particular chapter in his life, his service remains invaluable.

At present, Baldwin is the Warehouse and Shipping Supervisor for the Land Run Brands Team and he is an avid user of Fenix lights. During his years as a Canine Officer, Baldwin found he was a fan of the Fenix TK26 and the Fenix RC20.

Today, Baldwin stays extremely active outdoors and uses multiple Fenix products for various reasons from hunting to biking. When he prepares for a hunt, he uses a Fenix CL30R lantern at his camp. On the hunt, he uses the Fenix RC20 along with the AOF-L green filter and AOF-L blue filter which help him to enter and exit the woods without disturbing the wildlife and track wounded prey.

When he’s not hunting, he enjoys running and biking. To stay safe on a run he uses the Fenix E-Lite, turning on the red flashing mode and attaching it to the front of his shorts while running toward traffic. When he’s running away from traffic, he simply switches the E-Lite to the back of his shorts to increase his visibility for traffic on the road.

Not only is he a crucial team member of the Land Run Brands family, but he is also a Fenix-Store sponsored athlete, training hard for competitions and meeting each goal he sets for himself.

Even in his youth, Baldwin enjoys challenging himself in endurance athletics. In his high school and college years, he was involved in various athletic pursuits including cross-country, wrestling, and track. These experiences in endurance sports solidified his position and continued assignment as a Canine Officer and a Special Operations Team Member for the BAPD.

At the age of 40, Baldwin sought a new challenge: bodybuilding. He trained hard and competed in bodybuilding events enjoying the competition and achieving his goals. In 2011 he competed in the NPC Battle of the Bodies in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and won first place in the Men's Lightweight Novice Division and third place in the Men's Masters Division.

Again in 2011, he competed in the NPC Oklahoma State Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma winning first place in the Men's Lightweight Novice Division and first place in the Men's Lightweight Open Division. Later in 2014, he competed in the NPC Oklahoma State Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he won second place in the Men's Middleweight Novice Division.

To this day, Baldwin pursues athletic endeavors and is currently training for the Ironman Triathlon. He keeps his eyes on the future and has registered to compete in the Michigan 70.3 Ironman scheduled for September of this year as well as the Tulsa Ironman that will be occurring spring of next year.

Baldwin's goal is to become competitive enough to qualify as an Age Grouper for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship and the Ironman World Championships held in Kona, Hawaii. To accomplish this goal, Baldwin trains vigorously 6 days a week covering swimming, biking, and running in preparation for these races.

Through his years of service in the police force have come to an end, Baldwin has stayed far from stagnant, constantly challenging himself and achieving his goals.

 • What Is the Best Rechargeable Flashlight for the Money?

A rechargeable light with a rechargeable battery is unrivaled in its convenience. Since a flashlight is a common household tool today, we want to find the best rechargeable and useful flashlight.

Gone are the heavy and inconvenient battery chargers, and the worries about overcharging batteries. A USB port and cable are used to power these flashlights instead. This makes it a great option if you want to travel light and avoid bringing unnecessarily heavy items.

When you're out for the day or camping or hiking on the weekend and you don't have access to a power outlet, no problem. Use your laptop or an external battery pack to charge your flashlight. The best thing is that these rechargeable flashlights provide efficiency and features available in a modern LED torch. It’s all the better when you consider how easy it is to charge these lights.

New Generation of Flashlights

This latest rechargeable flashlight era has been lauded for its ability to produce vivid, consistent illumination for hours. The price varies depending on various features including quality, power, operation, and more. You need to consider the range of your light, its durability underwater, and different light operations.

Aside from the cost, think about how you'll use your flashlight. Will you use it for emergencies, or daily at your job, or while backpacking? When considering the different choices, keep the essential criteria in mind. Rechargeable flashlights are rapidly replacing their bulky and heavy counterparts as a preferred option. However, choosing one can be challenging and daunting due to the number of choices available.

Some flashlights have a long runtime so you can use them for a significant period of time before recharging. Some of the best flashlights can be recharged quickly so that you can use them again sooner. Some flashlights even include wall chargers and/or a USB cable.

What Is the Best Small Led Flashlight?

When you experience the difficulties of fumbling for your keys or something you lost in the dark, you'll realize how important it is to have a small flashlight on hand. A portable flashlight may be helpful in an emergency, but they only deliver 20 to 100 lumens. In contrast, a compact flashlight of 500 to 1,000 lumens will illuminate a whole field rather than just a tiny area.

The best small flashlight should be compact but possess a sturdy frame that fits comfortably in your pocket or purse. If you use your flashlight for physically strenuous activities, extra features like a belt buckle or moisture casing are needed. Therefore, the best brand that offers the best small led flashlights is Fenix. This brand is well-reviewed due to its high-quality and varied flashlights.

You can browse their products by simply visiting Fenix Store and discover the best Fenix EDC lights you can choose. EDC flashlights, or everyday carry flashlights, provide the strength and versatility you need to get out of the dark. Fenix flashlights make use of cutting-edge technologies to produce lightweight gadgets that are powerful and reliable. Any product that Fenix Lighting brings to the market is targeted for particular tasks such as law enforcement, outdoor activities, or EDC. However, some Fenix lights have varied features and can be used for multiple tasks.

So, if you’ve decided on what you need your flashlight for and that a small rechargeable flashlight is for you. Next, it’s time to look at what attributes make a good small flashlight. Below, I created the things you should consider when buying a small flashlight:

The Brightness of the Beam

For two reasons, knowing the brightness of your flashlight is crucial:

Some tasks necessitate more light than others.

The power reserves in your device are quickly depleted by higher light outputs.

When using a very bright flashlight to illuminate nearby objects, the beam can cause retinal damage. In other words, use the brighter flashlights only if you want to illuminate distant objects or large areas.

Features in Case of an Emergency

Strobe light and SOS signals are the most basic emergency features of Fenix flashlights. If you intend to use the device outside, these features are necessary.

Some people favor super-bright lights even indoors because you can use them strategically to blind intruders or attackers as a means of self-defense. If you're interested in this alternative, search for a flashlight with a lumen output of 900 or more.

The ability to charge your battery without removing it from the light has become increasingly common. Fenix makes rechargeable flashlights, headlamps, lanterns, and bike lights that come in various sizes, outputs, and functions and offer a lot of flexibility.

How Do You Charge a Flashlight?

The ways to charge a flashlight vary depending on its model and specifications. Most will use a micro USB or USB type-C charging cable. You can plug the USB cable into the light and then into your laptop or a USB wall adapter. Some flashlights feature proprietary charging cables and will usually be included with the flashlight. However, I’m going to focus on USB rechargeable flashlights.

The flashlight must be recharged using an operated USB connector. Your flashlight may need a standard USB adapter for your home or vehicle or a computer or laptop with a powered USB port. Furthermore, rechargeable flashlights have so many advantages. To explain it further, I listed below some of the reasons why you should buy one.

Cost-effective

Why do so many prefer a rechargeable flashlight? It might seem a little pricey compared to non-rechargeable flashlights. However, it is much cheaper over the long run since you won't have to replace the battery from time to time nor will you need to purchase a separate battery charger.

Longer Run Times

Rechargeable flashlights usually run on lithium-ion batteries. Thanks to these batteries, you will see higher light outputs and longer runtimes. These features can sound trivial when using rechargeable flashlights. However, anyone who experiences what it’s like to have a rechargeable flashlight will understand the benefits of a rechargeable light.

LED technology continues to progress and is used in more advanced flashlights today making them far superior to early flashlight models. LED flashlights have various advantages, including consuming less power to work and providing longer run times than common flashlights. The ability to recharge the light further adds to these advantages.

Final Takeaways

Fenix offers affordable rechargeable flashlights, headlamps, lanterns, and bike lights that you can choose from. I consider Fenix the best brand because of its low cost, durable products, and superb service. Along with the flashlights, they have lighting accessories you can use, especially if you are into outdoor activities.

With these chargers, you can expect intuitive displays that can easily be read.

Can You Overcharge 18650 Batteries?

Many 18650 batteries consist of a steel case that offers poor protection and may increase the internal pressure in overcharging cases. With lithium-ion batteries, some main concerns include a short circuit, increasing temperature, or changes in the shape of the battery that may ultimately lead to explosions.

In general, 18650 batteries that explode are inferior. Lithium batteries can explode if they are made of poor quality, thus increasing the chances of internal short circuits while being used.

These internal short circuits create high-pressure gas and a high temperature that cannot be resolved quickly by the exhaust valve release. Advancement in technology improved the 18650 battery preparation process over the last three decades.

The safety valve that has been incorporated at the top of 18650 batteries prevents the occurrence of explosions in the sealed metal enclosure. It serves as a great protection barrier by opening the exhaust decompression when the battery's internal pressure increases excessively.

There is still a possibility that some chemical substances might leak into the battery reacting with oxygen in the air under situations of high temperature leading to a fire. Most 18650 batteries have protection boards accompanied by over-discharge, overcharge, short circuit protection, and other functions to promote safety.

If you have to cut costs, it’s better to buy a cheaper low-quality flashlight than it would be to purchase a low-quality battery. Protected batteries can prevent over-discharging, over-charging, and overheating through their built-in safety features.

What's the Highest mAh 18650?

The maximum capacity of a 18650 battery could reach up to 3500mAh - 3600mAh from the NCR18650G that clocks in at that range. The 3500mAh LG MJ1 is a high-capacity cell that is readily available in the market.

Fenix offers the next generation of 18650 batteries with a 3500mAh rating.

Fenix continuously improves its focus on batteries, with safety as its top priority. The ARB-L18-3500mAh 18650 Fenix battery contains various layers with safety features to avoid short circuits. The button-top design is also compatible with more brands or flashlights aside from Fenix Flashlights.

These Fenix 18650 batteries are perfect for rechargeable Fenix flashlights that have longer runtimes and feature higher outputs. Here, we listed the various specifications and inclusions of the 18650 battery with a 3500mAh rating from Fenix.

Features

Fenix ARB-L18-3500mAh Rechargeable 18650 Battery

Short-circuit protection designed with a button-top

Protection circuit located in the anode with a steel hat by riveting process

Steel shell eliminates the risk of short circuit caused by collision and impact

Pressure Relief Vent: Expels waste gas generated by the internal short circuit

Over-charge protection and over-discharge protection

Overheating protection

500 Charge Cycles: A properly maintained ARB-L18 battery is designed to retain 75% of its original capacity at 500 complete charge and discharge cycles

Inclusions

One ARB-L18-3500mAh High Capacity rechargeable 18650 battery

Final Thoughts

Fenix offers protected batteries with three levels of protection built inside them. It is crucial to store your batteries safely when it is not in use or located inside an electronic device. It is recommendable to keep your batteries in an area that is dry and clean with its ends not touching the opposite poles.

For better safety precautions, check your stored and in-use batteries for the presence of bulges, signs of degradation, and tears on the wrapping. It is also essential to observe the appropriate disposal of batteries in cases of battery failure.
