Product highlights

The Fenix HM53R is a remarkably versatile lighting solution built for those who refuse to be limited by a single-purpose tool. Delivering a powerful 1,200 lumens with a beam that reaches up to 518 feet, this compact light weighs just 102 grams and offers both white and red light sources; including a flashing red mode for emergencies or visibility. What truly sets the HM53R apart is its innovative 2-in-1 design: the light detaches from the headband in seconds to function as a standalone handheld flashlight, and a tough body clip lets you secure it to a pocket, belt, or pack for hands-free convenience without the headband. Whether you're navigating a trail, working a job site, or responding to an emergency, the HM53R adapts to the moment.

Built to perform in the most demanding conditions, the HM53R carries an IP68 waterproof rating and withstands drops from up to 2 meters, so it can take the abuse your adventures dish out. A convenient magnetic tail cap enables quick one-handed attachment to metal surfaces, keeping your light right where you need it. The included rechargeable 18350 battery charges via USB-C and delivers up to 135 hours of runtime, with a battery level indicator so you're never caught off guard in the dark. Lockout mode prevents accidental activation during storage or transport, ensuring every bit of that charge is there when you need it most.

  1. 1200 lumens maximum output, 158 meters maximum beam distance.
  2. High-output cold white light and red light.
  3. Headlamp mount, body clip, and magnetic tail-cap provide multiple mounting options.
  4. Large side switch for simple and glove-friendly operation.

Q: What kind of LEDs are used in HM53R?

A: Uses one Luminus SST-25 cold white LED and two OSRAM-2835 red LEDs; with a lifespan of 50,000 hours each.

Q: What is the color temperature of HM53R?

A: 6500K.

Q: What is the working voltage of HM53R?

A: Operating voltage: 3.0 V~4.2 V. Maximum operating voltage range: 2.75 V~4.2 V.

Q: Is HM53R rechargeable? How long is the charging time?

A: Yes. The HM53R features a USB Type-C port for charging. The normal charging time is approximately 2.5 hours from depleted to fully charged with a 5 V/1 A or above charging adapter.

Q: How to prevent accidentally activating the HM53R?

A:

Lock: With the lamp turned off, press and hold the switch for 3 seconds, the lamp will blink four times in Eco output of White light and then go out to indicate the locked status.

Unlock: With the light locked, press and hold the switch for 3 seconds, the lamp will blink four times and then activate in Eco output of White light to indicate that the lamp is unlocked.

Note: In locked status, clicking the switch will activate four blinks in Eco output of White light before turning off to indicate the locked status.

Q: Why does the HM53R downshift to a lower mode after being used for a while and the higher mode cannot be selected?

A: There are two reasons:

The headlamp will accumulate a lot of heat when used at high output levels for extended periods. When the headlamp reaches a temperature of 55°C or above, the headlamp will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature.

2. Low-voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the headlamp is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until the lowest output level is reached.

Q: Why does the HM53R sometimes flicker?

A: The reasons that may cause the headlamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate:

A: Poor battery level.

Solution: Recharge or replace the battery.

B: The contact point or contact of the battery or headlamp is dirty.

Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don't work, please contact the distributor.

Battery Specifications

  • ARB-L18-1600 (18350, 3.6V): Recommended
  • ARB-L18-1100 / ARB-L18-1100P (18350, 3.6V): Usable
  • Other Rechargeable Battery, Li-ion (18350 or 16340, 3.6V): Caution
  • Non-rechargeable Battery (CR123A, 3.0V): Caution

18350 Li-ion batteries are powerful cells designed for commercial applications and must be treated with caution and handled with care. Using low-quality batteries or mishandling batteries could lead to combustion and jeopardize safety and property; adverse effects are not covered by Fenix warranty. CR123A batteries should be reserved for emergency use only — do not charge while using CR123A batteries. For optimal performance, use a Fenix ARB-L18-1600 battery.

Battery Replacement

Unscrew the battery cover counterclockwise and insert the battery in accordance with the polarity marks, then screw the battery cover back on.

Charging

  • Open the anti-dust plug and connect the USB Type-C end of the charging cable to the charging port of the headlamp.
  • The indicator will display red while charging and will turn green when fully charged.
  • Once charging is completed, unplug the charging cable and close the anti-dust plug.
  • With the lamp turned off, the normal charging time of the included Fenix ARB-L18-1600 battery is about 2.5 hours with a 5V/1A or above charging adapter.

The headlamp can be operated while charging. When the voltage level is lower than 3.3V, only the Low output of each mode and the Flash output can be activated. Recharge a stored headlamp every four months. This headlamp does not support fast charging. Only use a certified USB charging adapter that complies with local safety standards.

Battery Level Indication

With the lamp turned off, single click the switch to check the current battery level; the indicator will last for 3 seconds.

  • Green light on: saturated 100% - 80%
  • Green light flashes: sufficient 80% - 50%
  • Red light on: poor 50% - 20%
  • Red light flashes: critical 20% - 0%

Intelligent Overheat Protection

The headlamp will accumulate a lot of heat when used at high output levels for extended periods. When the headlamp reaches a temperature of 55°C/131°F or above, it will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature. When the temperature drops below 55°C/131°F, the lamp will gradually recall the preset output level.

Low-Voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the headlamp is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until the lowest output is reached. When this happens at the lowest output, the battery level indicator blinks red to remind users to recharge or replace the battery.

Headband Assembly

The headband is factory assembled and ready to use right out of the package. Adjust the headband by sliding the buckle to the required length.

Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the headlamp and will void the warranty.
  • Fenix recommends using an excellent quality battery.
  • If the headlamp will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the lamp could be damaged by electrolyte leakage.
  • Take out the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the O-ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the headlamp's performance: A) Poor battery level — recharge or replace. B) Dirty contacts — clean with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol. If the above methods don't work, contact the distributor.
