Q: What is the color temperature of HM55R?
A: Spotlight: 6500K. Floodlight: 5000K.

Q: What is the working voltage of HM55R?
A: The working voltage range is 3.0 - 4.2 V. The limiting working voltage range is 2.75 - 4.2 V.

Q: Is HM55R rechargeable? How long is the charging time?
A: Yes. The HM55R is rechargeable via its USB Type-C port. The normal charging time is approximately 2.5 hours from depleted to fully charged.

Q: How to prevent accidentally activating the HM55R?
A: Remove the battery to prevent accidental activation.

Q: Why does the HM55R downshift to a lower mode after being used for a while and the higher mode cannot be selected?
A: There are two reasons:
1. Intelligent Overheat Protection
The headlamp will accumulate a lot of heat when used at high output levels for extended periods. When the headlamp reaches a temperature of 60°C or above, the headlamp will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature.
2. Low-voltage Warning
When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the headlamp is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until the lowest output level is reached.

Q: Why does the HM55R sometimes flicker?
A: The reasons that may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate:
B: Poor battery level.
Solution: Recharge or replace the battery.
C: The contact point or contact of the battery or headlamp is dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.
If the above methods don't work, please contact Fenix-Store.

Q: What kind of battery can be used in HM55R?
A: It is recommended to use a Fenix ARB-L18-1600 battery. Other batteries(e.g., CR123A) are not recommended, as an unmatched battery may cause the headlamp to fail to work normally.

Q: What is the IP rating of the HM55R? Does its USB Type-C port feature inner waterproof treatment?
A: IP68. Yes, its USB Type-C port features inner waterproof treatment.

Operating Instructions

On/Off: with the lamp turned off, press and hold the switch for 0.5 seconds to turn on the white light, or double click the switch to turn on the red light. In any mode, press and hold the switch for 0.5 seconds to turn off the lamp.

Mode switching: in Spotlight mode, press and hold the switch for 1.2 seconds to switch to the previously used output of Floodlight mode, and vice versa.

Output selection — Spotlight: single click the switch to cycle through Low→Med→High→Turbo.

Output selection — Floodlight: single click the switch to cycle through Low→Med→High.

Output selection — Red light: single click the switch to select between Red constant-on and Red flash.

Intelligent Memory Circuit

The headlamp automatically memorizes the previously used output level and mode excluding Red light. When turned on again, the previously used output level and mode will be recalled. When turned on in Spotlight mode, the headlamp will activate in High output if it was previously switched off in Turbo output.

Intelligent Brightness Downshift Function

On/Off: with the lamp turned off, press and hold the switch for 6 seconds; the headlamp will blink twice on Low output of Floodlight mode to enable the function, or 8 times to disable it. When the light head is close to an illuminated object (about 2.36"/60mm) for more than 1.5 seconds in Spotlight or Floodlight mode, the headlamp automatically reduces brightness to 30 lumens; when moved away for more than 0.8 seconds, it recalls the previously used level.

Battery Specifications

  • ARB-L18-1600 (18350, 3.6V): Recommended
  • ARB-L18-1100 / ARB-L18-1100P (18350, 3.6V): Usable
  • Other Rechargeable Battery, Li-ion (18350 or 16340, 3.6V): Usable
  • Non-rechargeable Battery (CR123A, 3.0V): Caution

18350 Li-ion batteries are powerful cells designed for commercial applications and must be treated with caution and handled with care. Using low-quality batteries or mishandling batteries could lead to combustion and jeopardize safety and property; adverse effects are not covered by Fenix warranty. CR123A batteries should be reserved for emergency use only — do not recharge while using a CR123A battery. For optimal performance, use a Fenix ARB-L18-1600 battery.

Battery Replacement

Unscrew the battery cover counterclockwise and insert the battery in accordance with the polarity marks, then screw the battery cover back on.

Charging

  • Uncover the anti-dust cap and plug the USB Type-C end of the charging cable into the charging port of the lamp.
  • The indicator will display red while charging and will turn green when fully charged.
  • Once charging is completed, unplug the charging cable and close the anti-dust cover.
  • With the lamp turned off, the normal charging time of the included Fenix ARB-L18-1600 battery is about 2.5 hours with a 5V/1A or above charging adapter.

The headlamp can be operated while charging. When the battery level is lower than 3.3V, only the Low output of each mode and the Red flash output can be activated. Recharge a stored headlamp every four months.

Battery Level Indication

With the lamp turned off, single click the switch to check the battery level; the indicator will last for 3 seconds. Each time the lamp is turned on, the indicator also shows the current battery level for 3 seconds.

  • Green light on: 100% - 80%
  • Green light flashes: 80% - 50%
  • Red light on: 50% - 20%
  • Red light flashes: 20% - 1%

Intelligent Overheat Protection

The headlamp will accumulate a lot of heat when used at high output levels for extended periods. When the headlamp reaches a temperature of 55°C/131°F or above, it will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature. When the temperature drops below 55°C/131°F, the lamp will gradually recall the preset output level.

Low-Voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the headlamp is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until the lowest output is reached. When this happens at the lowest output, the battery level indicator blinks red to remind users to recharge or replace the battery.

Headband Assembly

The headband is factory assembled and ready to use right out of the package. Adjust the headband by sliding the buckle to the required length.

Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the lamp and will void the warranty.
  • Fenix recommends using an excellent quality battery.
  • If the lamp will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the lamp could be damaged by electrolyte leakage.
  • Take out the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the O-ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lamp's performance: A) Poor battery level — recharge or replace. B) Dirty contacts — clean with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol. If the above methods don't work, contact the distributor.

Reviews

Excellent for trailrunning

"Great headlamp for trailrunning with swappable battery. It has plenty of output and runtime for my evening runs. I wanted a lighter version of HM65R-T and found it but with a single switch. I actually enjoy the single switch to control spot/flood. From reviews it seemed odd but in practice, its great."

Bob (5/5)

Smart sensor ruined this one.

"Well, I thought this was gonna be the one so I ordered another. But unfortunately after realizing they put some type of smart sensor on this light to lower the brightness down when it thinks your working up close to save battery. No matter what I’m doing it’s a fight to keep it on a brighter setting because it keeps turning down. I’m sending them all back. Not worth the hassle"

Justadude (2/5)

The perfect headlight

"I have a lot of flashlights and headlamps. Flashlight geek. This new headlamp takes the place of all other headlamps. I have every model Fenix recently made but this 55 is where it’s at. Lightweight a long lasting. The perfect combo. Already ordered another one. Now we just need a usb-c rechargeable backup battery for it."

Justadude (5/5)

Perfect Headlight

"The controls are easy to operate."
